My mother moved into Fieldstone eight months ago, and it has been a good experience overall. The staff know her preferences well — from how she likes her tea to which garden bench she favours in the afternoon. I appreciate that they don't rush her and that I get regular updates without having to ask.

We use the Midweek Respite Stay for my father. It took him a couple of weeks to settle into the routine, but now he looks forward to Mondays. The handover on Fridays is always smooth, and they keep a care log so we know what happened during the week. My only note is that parking nearby can be tricky during school hours.

My grandmother joined the Nature Craft Day Programme three months ago. She has always loved working with her hands, and the leaf pressing and seed mosaics have given her something to talk about when we visit on weekends. She brings home little pieces she has made — it is nice to see her engaged again.

We visited several care homes before choosing Fieldstone. What stood out was the garden. Most places we saw were entirely indoors, but here there are actual paths with plants and seats. My dad spends time outside every day, which he would not have done if he stayed at home alone. The fees are reasonable for the area, though subsidies helped make it more manageable.

Sarah, the family liaison, was very helpful during the intake. She walked us through the subsidy process step by step and followed up when we had questions. My mother has been a residential care resident for over a year now, and I feel confident leaving her there during the week while I work.

The food was a concern for us when we first enquired, as my father follows a halal diet. The kitchen staff worked with us from the beginning and he has not had any issues. He tells me the meals are fresh and that he enjoys eating with others. That social element has been positive for his mood.

Stories of Transition and Care

From Hospital Discharge to Settled Living

The Situation

Mr. Ong, 82, was discharged from hospital following a hip surgery. His family, both working full-time, needed a care arrangement that could support his rehabilitation and daily needs during recovery.

Our Response

We arranged a residential care placement within five days, coordinating with his physiotherapist to integrate mobility exercises into his daily routine. Staff assisted with personal care while gradually encouraging independence as he recovered.

The Outcome

After four months, Mr. Ong regained enough mobility to walk the garden paths with a walking aid. His family decided to keep the residential arrangement in place, as he had settled in well and formed friendships with other residents.

Balancing Work and Weekend Caregiving

The Situation

Mrs. Lee, 76, lived alone while her daughter worked weekdays in the city centre. The daughter worried about her mother being unsupervised during long working hours but wanted to continue caring for her at weekends.

Our Response

We enrolled Mrs. Lee in the Midweek Respite Stay programme, starting with a fortnightly schedule. After one month, the family moved to a weekly arrangement as Mrs. Lee adapted well to the weekday routine and enjoyed the social interaction.

The Outcome

The arrangement has been running for ten months. Mrs. Lee's daughter reports feeling less anxious during the working week, and Mrs. Lee herself looks forward to returning each Monday. The family describes the arrangement as "the right middle ground."

Rediscovering Engagement Through Craft

The Situation

Mr. Krishnan, 79, had become increasingly withdrawn after losing his wife. His son noticed he spent most days watching television and rarely spoke to neighbours. The family wanted to find an activity that could re-engage him socially.

Our Response

Mr. Krishnan joined the Nature Craft Day Programme. During his first week, staff noticed he was quiet but observant. By the third week, he began participating in group discussions and took a particular interest in driftwood assemblages.

The Outcome

After three months, Mr. Krishnan's son describes a noticeable change in his father's mood and willingness to engage. He brings home craft items and has started talking about his sessions at family dinners. The family plans to continue with the programme.
